Hazell Bros Wins Fastest Growing Award

29/8/2008

Tasmanian company Hazell Bros was last night named winner of a prestigious national BRW ANZ Private Business Awards for its successful growth.

The family owned Construction Company is the BRW's fastest growing private business in Australia with a turnover greater than $100m per annum, and features as one of the BRW's Top 500 companies nationally.

Hazell Bros has been acknowledged for its outstanding business performance, sound acquisitions, staff retention and family values.

Managing Director Geoffrey Hazell said the Company was both proud of its success and national recognition among so many other successful businesses.

"This is a huge achievement for the Hazell family and for everyone who works for Hazell Bros", Mr Hazell said.

"We are very focused on quality, especially how we can grow our people and invest in our people.  We are very proud of all our staff and our very good brand Statewide."

Following rapid growth throughout the business, Hazell Bros Group now has 12 permanent sites across Tasmania, seven brands, a wide variety of business activities and employs 500 people.

Hazell Bros has made a series of acquisitions in addition to its organic growth - buying Derwent Valley Concrete in 2005, and Quick Mix Concrete, Qual Tech Testing Services, and Bells Constructions and Technologies in 2006.

Director Robert Hazell said that the rapid business growth and expansion posed many challenges for the Company and there is a strong focus on making the business sustainable into the future.

"We want our employees to share in our business' success, we are not only committed to building our Company, but continuing to involve our people and plan for the future," he said.

This award will take pride of place among the Company's other recent award wins, including the 2007 State Government Southern Region Employer of Choice winner; Civil Contractors Federation Award for St Mary's Pass Remedial Roadworks; and Master Builders' Association Award for the Harvey Norman Cambridge Park Development.

Hazell Bros' talented workforce has undertaken a variety of projects over the last 12 months:

  • Northern Tasmania         - Launceston Regional Aquatic Centre, Tamar Valley Power Station
