HBs Conquer Burnie Ten

21/10/2008

The 2008 Skilled Burnie Ten was a great success, with a record number of entries. The inaugural Hazell Bros Walkers category proved very popular and helped to boost the overall race numbers.

Managing Director Geoffrey Hazell congratulated the 43 member Hazell Bros Team on its achievement.

"To have employees from all over the state participating in the Burnie Ten is really positive.

"The health and wellbeing goals of our employees are important to us, and a real sense of team spirit and working together comes out of an event like this," he said.

In the competitive runners' category, Team member Tim Cook was Hazell Bros' fastest finisher in 77th place, in a blistering time of 38:41. Rex Wagner was the fastest employee across the line, the "Silver Fox" finishing in 116th place in 40:49. Paul Riseley, Chris Gates, and Ian Bezzant weren't far behind.  Regardless of time or placing, just completing the race was a great effort by everyone.

Large crowds gathered at the Hazell Bros Waterfront Festivities after the race for well earned refreshments, food, live music and entertainment. Recovery for some meant a snooze on the grass. For others, it meant contemplating a swim at the beach. For most, it meant tucking into a sausage followed by a great big melting ice cream! The day was characterised by great weather and a great sense of achievement.
