Avebury Nickel Project - Allegiance Mine

The Avebury Nickel project is located approximately eight kilometres west of the town of Zeehan on the west coast of Tasmania.

The project involved construction of a processing facility that will process 900,000 tonnes of ore per annum.

Hazell Bros was awarded 10 packages of work on the project, which consisted of all the concrete foundations for the new process plant, and design and construction of a ROM wall and unloading slab.

Hazell Bros had a full time presence on site working on a rotating 11 and 3 shift basis. 24 hour shift work was also introduced at times to meet strict deadlines such as the main crusher foundation.

Scope of works included:

  • Drilling and grouting of ground anchors
  • Construction and backfill of 750m2 ROM retaining wall, 12m high, and associated slabs
  • Chemical coatings
  • Installation of site services
  • Supply of 8000m3 of concrete from a site batching plant
  • Construction of concrete footings for:
  • Ball Mill
  • Regrind Mill
  • Flotation facility
  • Crusher (involved construction of a 1.2m thick slab suspended 5m in the air)
  • Sewerage treatment plant
  • Potable water tanks
